Netflix’s revenue from the DVD-by-mail biz has — by design — steadily declined over the years, as the company wanted to push members toward the streaming service. In 2022, the DVD business generated $145.7 million , which represented just 0.5% of its total revenue. Netflix originally launched video-streaming in 2007, and originally that was part of its DVD-by-mail subscription plans. In 2011, Netflix made the disastrous decision to split Netflix streaming from the newly named Qwikster DVD-by-mail business — a move the company reversed after less than a month and slew of cancelations.
Had no idea they still where doing that.
This sucks! I still have their DVD subscription. 😩
This is a heartbreaker
Oh well, read a book instead.
😭😭😭
What will happen to the other Netflix original shows and movies that never got their DVD releases?
I didn’t know they were still doing it lol
Hold up...Netflix still had a DVD business?
It was a good run. But once discs became a niche market and video disc rentals mostly shut down, it was only a matter of time. I enjoyed it in it's hey day, but once they started throttling new releases, it went downhill from there.
Always like their DVD service because it was the only place (After Netflix put Blockbuster out of business) where you could get any movie or TV show you wanted for $8 a month, but I cut it off when Covid started & never got it again - a shame cause there is no pace like that now.
They STILL had a DVD business? 😳
