The association said several business areas badly required upgrading with better stalls and kiosks.

Malaysian Federation of Hawkers and Traders Association president Datuk Seri Rosli Sulaiman said several areas where hawkers and petty traders did business badly required upgrading with better stalls and kiosks.“From its establishment until today, this place has not been upgraded,” he told Bernama when contacted.

“I have met with the hawker community and they requested their association leaders to get their views and suggestions, so that the provision is used in the best possible way.“We see many food courts are being built, but they don’t get many customers. Hence, we don’t want any wastage of funds. On Feb 24, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Finance Minister, in tabling Budget 2023, said RM50mil would be allocated to build and upgrade 3,000 stalls in focal locations nationwide.

He, however, called on the local authority not to issue new hawker business licences in some areas, but instead to improve the existing hawker licence ownership system.
