Mbele and Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe on Wednesday addressed questions at the Enlit Africa conference in Cape Town. The conference is a gathering of global energy players. Mantashe provided a brief overview of government's plans in the energy sector in the coming months. The remaining six of these solar projects are part of the Ikamva Consortium, led by Mainstream Renewables and Globeleq.
Mbele said the discussions are around whether the projects, failing to qualify with the requirements or deadlines of the REIPPPP to reach financial close, could possibly participate in the commercial and industrial market in bilateral contracts.
