Street food markets are the cool, refreshing and contemporary re-invention of an often soulless and dingy shopping centre good court. And Blackpool's Abingdon Street Food market is the latest to join the multi-cuisine trend.
It can be overwhelming walking into a place like this, with the colourful smells wafting past you nose like the lines on an invisible underground map. But we're here to help and showcase the range of food on offer... The signature recipe chutney is also zippy and sweet and we washed the whole thing down with a freshly made citrus and sharp smoothie. Incidentally, there are five different types of stuffed naans and we've got our eye on the Punjabi MC for our next visit, while the Fala-Full is ideal for vegetarians.
Don't miss Well, apart from the stuffed naans, you can't go wrong with a Pizza Rana margherita . It is consistently the most-ordered pizza on the menu for a reason. The base is fluffy, light with that familiar charcoal-y hint and didn't go soggy when the thick, chunky tomatoes and cheese was slathered on top, token basil leaves to finish off the look.
And although Abingdon most definitely carries similar characteristics and charm to those venues, which we have visited on several occasions, we can confirm one thing Blackpool appears not to have carried over to the coast - the hiked city centre prices. We found the prices to be generally, across all vendors, cheaper than the likes of Mackie Mayor and Baltic Market.
