Berdine Odendaal, a polo-loving socialite who received R60 million from a company linked to disgraced Steinhoff boss Markus Jooste, did herself no favours by keeping the SA Reserve Bank in the dark about her finances, a court has said. to compel the central bank to pay living expenses of R150 000 a month from funds it blocked two years ago. The court also rejected the 39-year-old's attempt to get the bank to cover her future legal costs.

The ruling means that the bank will not have to pay anything to Odendaal, after it attached millions of rands of her assets in April 2021.
