A Civil Society Organisation, Centre for Human Rights and Accountability Network(CHRAN) has urged the Akwa Ibom State government, the Niger Delta

Development Commission as well as the oil companies in the state to key into programmes supporting the development of female youths in the state.

It noted that the support could be in the form of education from primary to tertiary level or life enhancement skill acquisition training. The Akwa Ibom State Director of the organisation, Otuekong Franklyn Isong made the call on Thursday in Uyo when the Executive Director of Purple Girls Association, Lady Edna Udeme paid him an advocacy visit in his office.

Isong also urged lawmakers who want to embark on constituency empowerment projects to look towards girls that are in dire need of empowerment and not to empower people from their families. Speaking earlier, Progenitor of the Female Youth Academy , Mrs Udeme, urged Gov Umo Eno to remember the girls while sharing palliatives for the fuel subsidy removal in terms of mobility saying that the girls walk a long distance to attend trainings daily due to high cost of transportation.
