GardaWorld, the same private security company that bussed migrants to Chicago, has been contracted for $29 million to build winterized tents to house them.

Some of those questions surround the company’s role in the crisis. GardaWorld is not only contracted to build the tents, but has also been responsible for bussing migrants to the city, a conflict that has raised eyebrows, including those of Ald. Ray Lopez. Community and faith leaders are speaking out in opposition to a plan floated by Mayor Brandon Johnson to move asylum-seeking migrants into tent cities, NBC Chicago's Charlie Wojciechowski reports., which pulled out of the deal due to “concerns about the international company’s history of alleged abuses and mistreatment, as well as its lack of experience in sheltering migrants,” according to a statement.
