U.S. stocks on Wednesday fought for direction at the open, with a lack of new developments on U.S.-China trade and a dearth of other catalysts, capping moves for equities.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.08% was flat at 25,819, rising less than 0.1%, the S&P 500 index SPX, -0.25% was little changed at 2,788, while the Nasdaq Composite Index COMP, -0.23% was flat at 7,573. A report by Bloomberg on Wednesday said President Donald Trump is pressuring U.S. trade negotiators to cut a deal with China soon in the hopes of fueling a market rally.
