A bonus point win against Uruguay will send New Zealand into the quarterfinals of Rugby World Cup

A bonus point win in their final Pool match against Uruguay in Lyon on Thursday, will send New Zealand to the quarterfinals of the 2023 Rugby World Cup. The All Blacks are expected to trounce Uruguay, as they did to Namibia and Italy, after losing in their opening match to France. However, the South American underdogs may offer more resistance than one would think. They only lost 27-12 to France in their first match of the World Cup.

“I think the great thing about this team and this tournament is that we are focused on each week as it comes and that’s the way it’s been this week. You know, we can’t look past Uruguay,” says Codie Taylor, New Zealand hooker. “For as long as I have been playing, one of the toughest challenges of the week is preparing for a team that you know will be easy to overcome. When that happens, you tend to leave no stones unturned, you take it easy on some areas. But for as long as I’ve been in this environment, it’s about our standards and that’s what’s important to us.

“As a team we were sitting watching that game. Obviously, we were curious to see how they went. That was part of what got us excited and made us go, we can’t get complacent in this tournament against anyone we play,” says Greg Feek, New Zealand scrum coach.test cap for the All Blacks, and play in his 23rd World Cup match, breaking the record held by Richie McCaw and Jason Leonard. And if Whitelock is on the winning side, that’ll be his 21st World Cup win, another record in the books.
