Sarah Hughes said it was her 'good luck charm' and that she didn't consider it to be racist

A market trader has remove a 'golly' doll from her stall after council bosses stepped in. Sarah Hughes, who runs the Smokers Corner at Bolton Market, told the Manchester Evening News it was her 'good luck charm' and that that she's had it since she was a child.

"If someone did come up to me and say I find that racist I'd say 'well, I'm very sorry, but it isn't intended that way'. Loads of people like them. They're cute. I can't see how they can find it racist. It's not a racist statement. To me, they're positive." "The doll has now been removed with the full agreement and co-operation of the stallholder. Bolton Market is an inclusive, friendly and welcoming environment, and Bolton council is committed to challenging all forms of racism and discrimination."
