Benchmark index expected to maintain sideways pattern.

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia opened marginally higher today on improving risk appetite amid cautious sentiment on the regional bourses, a dealer said.

“Hence we expect the benchmark index to maintain its sideways pattern and trend within the 1,435-1,445 range today,” he told Bernama. At 9.10am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI gained 1.73 points to 1,439.85 from Monday’s closing of 1,438.12.On the broader market, gainers led decliners 162 to 136, while 250 counters were unchanged, 1,820 untraded and 13 suspended.Among the heavyweights, Maybank, Public Bank, CIMB and Petronas Chemicals were unchanged at RM8.99, RM4.16, RM5.66 and RM7.07 respectively, while Tenaga Nasional rose 5 sen to RM9.90.
