KUALA LUMPUR: A construction company and its director were charged in the Magistrate's Court here Tursday with failing to comply with an order issued by the Consumer Claims Tribunal Malaysia to repay an individual RM50,000.

The company, Billah Empire Construction Sdn Bhd, represented by its director, Muhammad Ariffin Billah Mohd Noor Zakiah, 29, as the person summoned pleaded not guilty to the charge before Magistrate Nurul Izzah Shaharuddin. They were alleged to have failed to comply with the order issued by TCCM dated July 23, 2020, ordering the company to repay RM50,000 to the man within 14 days from the date the award was served, which was July 25, 2020.The charge was framed under Section 117 of the Consumer Protection Act 1999 which provides a maximum fine of RM10,000 or imprisonment of up to two years or both, if convicted.
