The Ministry of Health said it will take enforcement action against anyone found to have breached advertising guidelines. Dr Desmond Wai has been offered the title of Gastroenterologist of the Year by Global Health Asia Pacific (Ghapac) for a fee of $10,000. He declined the offer.

Since 2020, Dr Desmond Wai has thrice been offered the opportunity to be awarded the title of Gastroenterologist of the Year by Global Health Asia Pacific (Ghapac). However, he would have to pay nearly $10,000 for the award.

The Ministry of Health is investigating the company for allegedly giving out healthcare awards for money. Dr Wai immediately declined the offer each time.
