Alexander Building Construction News

Broad Street Market,Dauphin County,Harrisburg

'It's affecting vendors. It's affecting the community'

The temporary tent at the Broad Street Market was bustling with people on its opening day, though community members on Thursday remained concerned about a rift between the mayor and city council that could affect how long that tent is needed. The tent is intended to be a multi-year substitute for the historic markethouse's Brick Building, which was built in the 1870s but severely damaged by a fire last year, though the process can't start until a construction manager is approved.

Such a delay could push construction into late 2026 or early 2027, the administration warned, potentially leaving city taxpayers on the hook for tens of thousands of dollars worth of additional rent payments for the tent, which is located on land leased by Millworks owner Josh Kesler. In defeating the resolution to hire Alexander Building Construction, five council members cited a number of reasons for rejecting the firm.
