In his first comments since the fashion label of designer Dion Lee fell into administration, backer Rod Levis says the company “needs a lot more finance”.

says the high fashion label of designer Dion Lee “needs a lot more finance” to reach its full potential, but his house of brands will not plug the losses linked to slowing sales and overseas expansion plans.

Mr Levis, in his first comments on the issue, said there was no disagreement with Dion Lee, but about six weeks ago, it became apparent Cue, along with sister brand Veronika Maine, needed to refocus on its own house. Mr Levis pointed to troubles with overseas stores. The label, which has 80 staff, opened a store in Miami in late 2023, nine months after it started paying rent on the outlet. Plans for a second New York store are up in the air, after a property purchased by the label two years ago has been plagued by planning issues.

According to ASIC documents Cue Clothing controls 70 per cent of Dion Lee Enterprise, while Dion Lee’s mother, Helen Lee, controls the balance. Melanie Levis, Mr Levis’ daughter and a Cue director, is listed as a director.
