Let's hope it stays there for a while

Nottingham City Council's huge St. George's flag has re-appeared in Old Market Square ahead of England's crunch Euro 2024 quarter-final clash with Switzerland on Saturday. The 60ft flag, which adorns the front of Loxley House, was unfurled on the morning of Wednesday, July 3.

It was last used to mark St George's Day on April 23. But with England's progression to the last eight after the late comeback against Slovakia it has been unveiled once more. A post on the council's X account, accompanied by a video of the unfurling, said: "Our 60ft St George's flag went up on the Council House today ahead of England's Euro 2024 match against Switzerland on Saturday. Big thanks to Willmott Dixon and John E Wright for sponsoring the installation of the flag, which we believe is the largest in the country."

The flag has been in place for previous footballing occasions, including England's Lionesses' run to the final of Euro 2022. It is attached via cables between the Council house's pillars. It has been previously lauded for being a welcome celebration of the country. England's game against Switzerland kicks off at 5pm on Saturday, July 6 and will be live on BBC One.
