Locavore has been issued with a notice of removal to its organic farm at Bellahouston Nursery - months after receiving almost £50,000 to develop the site. They say the dispute puts 80 jobs 'at risk'.

Locals are currently rallying in support of a Glasgow-based social enterprise, Locavore, after Glasgow City Council hit them with a notice of removal.

Locavore say their Bellahouston site is the city's only organic farm and was set to harvest tonnes of tomatoes, cucumbers, beans and kale this peak season. But the firm have now been faced with the possibility of immediate closure. Speaking to Glasgow Live, founder Reuben Chesters said the move would be a major "set back" for local organic produce and says Locavore is "incredibly important" for Glasgow city.

The Bellahouston Nursery site is the hub for the majority of local food and social enterprise’s activities and forcing this eviction would result in the closure of Locavore in its "entirety with the loss of 80 jobs, its two shops, and an extensive range of social and environmental benefits that the not-for-profit provides in Glasgow and beyond".

"Chard CIC have not taken on liability for any of the previous debts of Locavore and ChardCIC have been unable to demonstrate appropriate financial governance following the collapse of the previous company, Locavore.
