The owner of a Nottingham hair salon has said she is "proud" to be celebrating 50 years since the opening of the business she began at 21. Sheila Liddington opened Hair Care 21 in Arnold shortly after receiving a diploma in hairdressing at college, and loyal customers have been returning ever since.
Sheila was determined to open her own business, however, admits the first few years of Hair Care 21 were difficult. The cracks in the run-down building that the Arnold hairdresser brought quickly showed. "We listen to our customers, we're friendly and nothing is too much trouble for us. We have ladies who first came when I opened that are now well into their 80s and still get their haircut here.
"It’s nice to keep it in the family because we’ve had a lot of us work here in the past," she said. "Especially when we’ve had tight moments and things haven’t gone right, we all step in and offer to shampoo or sweep up." "They’re all very pleasant and it's always a nice atmosphere when you come here," she said. "I’ve never heard them speak about anybody else or gossip.
