Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane will launch an independent investigation into determine whether a culture of racism exists at theTheir lawyer says the learners must now be allowed to return to school with immediate effect and without any prejudice.

The learners were implicated in conversations that allegedly included racial commentary and complaints against black pupils on a group chat comprising white-only learners. Gauteng Education spokesperson, Steve Mabona, gave an update on the matter to the media in Boksburg east of Johannesburg on Sunday afternoon.

“This, recourse that the MEC has decided to pursue will not investigate the 12 learners. But rather the allegations that racism exists at the school. The decision is further motivated by the fact that the report of the SGB ruling makes no mention of racism or discrimination against learners where there has been a strong or I can say the facts that existed at the school with allegations that there’s racism at the school.
