Cope digs in heels over land expropriation

Cope won 3 seats in Parliament in 2014, a massive drop from the 37 seats the party secured in the 2009 general elections.

Incessant infighting between Cope leader, Mosiuoa Lekota and his former deputy, Mbhazima Shilowa led to the loss of support.Lekota has warned South Africans against voting for parties that divide the country. He’s also criticised the Black Economic Empowerment policy, describing it as another form of apartheid.

” We are saying South Africa in the future will not, cannot be the house of racism. We suffered already sufficiently under Apartheid, to know that this thing of dividing human beings on the basis of their colour is a disastrous road to take,” Lekota says.
