Set up a level playing field policy for the automotive sector for other brand producers to team up, produce and compete.

I just heard that the prime minister is going to announce his choice for the national car soon. In fact, rumours have been circulating for some time that he has more or less decided that we should go with a specific brand from Japan. It’s an open secret, according to some reliable sources.

The other setback, of course, is that the so-called Malaysian producer would become overdependent on this specific and particular partner from Japan. This is precisely the business model that failed and bound Proton over for many years with a Japanese brand when it first started. So a new player, like our third national car partnership, would have no choice but to negotiate and rely on an old platform, possibly given at a reduced cost and hopefully by a known manufacturer with ready upper body design.

Under such a growth scenario, market protection would no longer be required. So why limit our capabilities to serve only a particular Japanese manufacturer?

We r to reduce and not to create burdens to the environment. Why not make Proton and Perodua the world class beaters rather than make the companies clashed among themselves over the 24 million population of Malaysia.

Oi what nonsense.

Who is the target market? Foreign migrant workers? Think before you do anything.

Forget this silly project where global titans have so entrenched themselves in; we SHALL be focusing on bio-tech, farming, HEMP for plastics, decriminalising Marijuana, etc. instead in that direction.

If introducing d 3rd nat'l car doesn't reduce drastically d car prices which Proton formerly enjoyed thru protectism 4 decades on its own over inflated price then pls abandon d idea. Don't need to feed one's inflated ego 4 more failure. RosliKhan chedetofficial pakatanharapan_

Time to make Geely & Perodua to work hard for their monies. These so called nat cars are not helping the local economy but instead its foreign owners.

Not sure what the writer is smoking but the market isn't ready nor can it sustain a 3rd national car and shouldn't be a priority at this point considering the state of our coffers.
