Hundreds of military companies are displaying lethal defence technology at the Land Forces conference in Melbourne this week.

Protesters will attempt to blockade the three day Land Forces defence conference in Melbourne where hundreds of military companies are displaying lethal technology.

"We're hoping for a mass blockade that can get in the way, that can help to disrupt the proceedings at this convention," protest spokesperson Jasmine Duff told the ABC. A company CEO featured on one of the posters has told the ABC his organisation is taking extra precautions and has received numerous security briefings over concerns for the safety of staff who will attend the three-day gathering.

A massive police security cordon has been set up around Melbourne's Convention and Exhibition Centre ahead of the conference.Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy has condemned the activists' tactics as "appalling" but expressed confidence that Victoria Police was well prepared to manage any protest activity over the next three days.

"A number of police will be dedicated to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre to ensure the highest level of safety and security throughout the event," a spokesperson said.
