Dikgang Moseneke says Kader Asmal believed that international law was important.

Retired Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke delivered the keynote address at the 10th Kader Asmal Annual Memorial Lecture on November 7, 2024.The Council of the Advancement of the Constitution in partnership with the University of the Western Cape hosted the lecture.Moseneke says, “As it is for us to witness the nightmare of the latest incessant and unending war on Gaza there appears to be no hope for an end to the hostilities between Israel and Palestine.

“But like Kader Asmal, I believe there is a proper place for legal legitimacy, not peace in the air. For the rule of law even amongst the nations of the world. Big and small and for an unending quest for a better orderly and just world where all might be favoured with ensuring peace and hopefully personal and collective self-realisation.
