The attack happened on the morning of Remembrance Sunday on East Street, Walworth, and three people were seriously assaulted.

One of those people, 77-year-old Hilkiah McLeggan from Southwark, was pronounced dead at the scene. A market stall holder who comforted the victim told The Sun: ‘There was blood everywhere. ‘The victim shouted, “I am gone. It’s the end of my life” and collapsed and died.

Ali Musse, 66 and of no fixed abode, has now been charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder. He’s set to appear at Croydon magistrates court later today. The Metropolitan Police have been forced to address social media posts suggesting that the attack was a terrorist incident, saying they believe ‘this is not the case’ and asking the public not to speculate.
