They are accused of selling expired food and being in possession of illicit cigarettes.

Environmental Health, EMS, SAPS, Security Companies, Crime Wardens, and CPF Patrollers conduct Spaza Shops Operation in Alexandra on November 16, 2024.The accused were in court yesterday and were remanded in custody for verification of their immigration status.Provincial police Spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba says officers arrested the accused during an operation in Botlokwa.

Ledwaba says, “The operation was conducted at Botlokwa in one of the general dealers, a wholesaler and a supermarket in the Dipateneng section in Botlokwa policing area, whereby expired products were confiscated and in one supermarket, products were repacked and expiry dates were also changed for expired goods.”

“Five suspects were arrested for selling expired foods. Four were arrested for possession of illicit cigarettes and three suspects arrested for Contravention of the Immigration Act. All suspects appeared before the Morebeng Magistrate’s court on charges of selling expired food, possession of illicit cigarettes, and illegal immigration.
