Transport for London will issue fines to electric bike companies if the vehicles are not parked correctly and block pavements or obstruct other road users

Electric bike firms could face significant fines if their dockless vehicles cause obstruction by inappropriately parking on pavements. Transport for London has devised a "new approach" to deal with the haphazard parking of dockless micromobility methods throughout the capital, according to a TfL spokesperson.

The strategy adopted by TfL will be considered "proportionate and pragmatic", reports Birmingham Live. Cllr Kieron Williams, the London Councils' Executive Member for Climate, Transport and Environment, weighed in on the value of e-bikes for the city: "Dockless e-bikes have the potential to be a major positive step forwards for London, but to work for our city they need to work for all Londoners.

Cllr Williams also highlighted local efforts to manage the situation: "London boroughs are already using enforcement powers to tackle these problems, including installing almost 2,000 new parking bays. We will be working closely with TfL to learn from their new approach, so we can continue to use all of the legal tools currently at our disposal to address these issues for our residents."
