A 57-year-old mechanic in Nilai, Malaysia, fell victim to a fraudulent online investment scheme and lost over RM920,000. He was tricked by an advertisement on Facebook and promised high returns, but ultimately had to invest more money to withdraw his supposed profits.

A 57-year-old mechanic in Nilai lost over RM920,000 after being deceived into investing in an online investment scheme. Nilai police chief Supt Abdul Malik Hasim stated that the man was tricked after encountering an advertisement on Facebook on September 2. The victim inquired about a share scheme investment called AE Online Invest and was contacted by an individual who explained how it worked. Impressed by the promises, the victim decided to invest his savings.

However, when he attempted to withdraw some of his purported profits, he was informed that he needed to invest another RM400,000. Supt Abdul Malik said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, which carries a potential jail term of one to 10 years, whipping, and a fine upon conviction. He advised individuals planning online investments, particularly those offering unusually high returns, to consult authorities or Bank Negara Malaysia before investing. The public can also contact the police’s CCID Scam Response Centre at 03-2610 1559 or 03-2610 1599 for further information
