The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) says they’ve met with the taxi industry leadership following a series of road crashes involving minibus taxis and trucks. Some of these crashes happen in the early hours of the morning, which indicates that fatigue could have been a contributing factor. RTMC Spokesperson Simon Zwane says, “The leadership has made a commitment that they will do everything possible to assist in reducing the number of road fatalities on South African roads.
We are pleased with the commitment that has been shown and we are hopeful that their efforts are going to also assist us to save more lives over this festive season.” In a separate incident, a minibus taxi overturned on the N3, and in a collision between a minibus and a bakkie on the N2 outside Dutywa in the Eastern Cape on Sunday, authorities say three other people were injured in the crash which happened on Saturday night. They say nine of the deceased were in the minibus and three in the bakkie
