PETALING JAYA: The International Islamic University Malaysia today announced Islamic finance expert Mohd Daud Bakar as the eighth president of the institution.
Daud, who was deputy rector of IIUM from 2002 to 2005, will serve as president for three years effective July 1. He replaces Education Minister Maszlee Malik, who resigned from the post following pressure from the Cabinet, Pakatan Harapan leaders and activists. Maszlee’s critics said his acceptance of the presidency was against the coalition’s promise not to put politicians in charge of public universities.
