The conciliation process between the union and the city was postponed to Wednesday at the bargaining council.
Samwu’s Mpho Tladinyana says, “If we don’t agree with the city on Wednesday, it’s then that maybe a certificate of non- resolution will be issued out, giving us the full right to embark on industrial action. So we have never been on strike, we have been engaging in a particular meeting. Our demands remain, 76 senior managers were paid 18% and therefore it is our demand that all of us, general workers, cleaners, must also be paid 18%.
This is a problem that has never been addressed. Municipalities upgrading the salaries of councillors and senior officials while the lower income employees are offered 6%. The trashing of property however is uncalled for. Eventually they have to clean up their own mess.
Why Leaders take long to address or listen to People's concerns,at the end infrastructure is destroyed. Do we have leadership.
Those lucky enough to have jobs shud handle them with care, while the right to strike is in our Constitution, trashing, destruction of properties & infringing on other ppl's rights, isn't. Furthermore, potential investors r watching, wud they want to invest in such a SA?🙏
Those in power will wait until everything gets out of control, courts interdicts never worked in wage disputes, period...!
