KUALA LUMPUR: An employee of a cigarette company, who claimed he had been robbed, was arrested after police discovered he had staged the robbery with two colleagues.

The 29-year-old employee had alleged that he was delivering cigarettes to a store at the Rampai Business Park in Wangsa Maju when he was confronted by six men using a parang and a metal truncheon on Tuesday.Wangsa Maju district police chief Rajab Ahad Ismail said police became suspicious when CCTV footage of the area showed that during the “robbery”, two men on a motorcycle had approached the suspect from behind the van and the suspect did not put up a fight.

Rajab said police detained the man at 2.30pm the same day and he led them to a home in Taman Sri Sinar, Segambut, where five men involved in the robbery were nabbed.All six men, aged between 27 and 36, have been remanded until Sept 24.
