Following a dialogue with Sibu Municipal Council , chamber chairman Gan Khai Choon told reporters that its 400 members had vast experience in various businesses and were keen to use this to benefit the people here.
SMC standing committee chairman for building control and own beautification, councillor Joseph Chieng represented council president Clarence Ting at the one-hour dialogue. “We have bankers, hoteliers, tourism players, property developers, traders and manufacturers. We want to find the best areas to add value due to our experience and international exposure, ” said Gan.
“It could be infrastructure and tourism facilities. We are also exploring what we can buy such as timber products, pepper, pineapple, sago, and palm oil. As we are based in southern China, we want to help Malaysians, ” he said.“As the cost of living in Hong Kong is very high, Malaysians who have gained places in universities there can apply for study loans from us. We recently gave out a study loan to a girl from Kuching, ” he said.
