Two years ago Amazon made it possible for Alexa users to create unique voice profiles — now it's empowering third-party developers to tap into them:

Two years ago, Amazon made it possible for Alexa users to create unique voice profiles for every member of the home, so that the voice assistant can personalize its responses to each individual based on their custom settings, preferences, and search history, among other things. Now, Amazon is extending this ability to Alexa skills by empowering developers to tap into users' voice profiles.

The ability for Alexa skills to deliver tailored experiences to users based on their voices will be valuable in a number of scenarios. For example, a cooking skill can offer a customized recipe tailored to individual dietary preferences, while a music or news skill can pull up the playlist or news source that the individual uses most frequently.

A more personalized experience is critical to Amazon's efforts to drive usage of Alexa skills. Consumers aren't currently taking advantage of skills.
