A man is in custody, accused of shooting a woman in the face over a business debt at her Townsville home this morning.

Paramedics found the 40-year-old woman in a critical condition with a gunshot wound to her head after being called to an address at Rangewood, in Townsville, about 8am. Senior Sergeant Joe Matheson said it appeared a man armed with a gun arrived at the home chasing a business debt, and confronted the woman who had opened the garage as she prepared to leave for work. The man allegedly fired a shot that hit the woman in the side of the face.

The pair were grappling in the garage, and the woman had rolled underneath the car to escape him, when her husband came to her aid and called out to a nearby tradesman for help. "He was of the belief that the lady was actually trapped under the car, he was just trying to lift the car when he was struck from behind," Snr Sgt Matheson said.
