Mogadishu checkpoint blast kills at least 61 sabcnews

The Horn of Africa country has been riven by conflict since 1991, when clan warlords overthrew dictator Siad Barre and then turned on each other.

After the sound of a huge blast at the Ex-Control checkpoint, 55-year-old Sabdow Ali, who lives nearby, said he left his house and counted at least 13 people dead. “Dozens of injured people were screaming for help but the police immediately opened fire and I rushed back to my house,” he told Reuters. The injured were transported to Medina Hospital, where a Reuters witness saw dozens arriving by ambulance from the scene.

Speaking to reporters at the blast site, Mogadishu Mayor Omar Muhamoud said the government confirmed at least 90 civilians, mostly students, had been injured in the explosion.

Cousin_Mzala28 This thing of religion must b cancelled , most mass killing happening around the world are motivated by extremists who think their religion is superior than others 😥😥😥😧😧..

They go too impatient with the checkpoint process...

When will it end🤔🤔🤔

Wouldn't be surprised if al Shabaab claim responsibility for this attack. The attack has their hallmark; carrying out such blasts (At times suicide blasts) in heavily crowded areas for maximum damage. It's hard to defeat such insurgents as they never do direct confrontations

Where’s this so called US intervention?😏

We are Africans guys why killing each other like wild animals, let come up with a system works for all of usAfrica unity.

Creecy orders suspension of officials in Nic Dlamini scuffle - SABC News - Breaking news, special reports, world, business, sport coverage of all South African current events. Africa's news leader.Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries Barbara Creecy has ordered the suspension of all officials involved in an incident in which top cyclist Nic Dlamini had his arm broken allegedly by park rangers in Cape Town. I'm thrilled these thugs are being held accountable, but how many times has this happened with a non famous person, we saw a ranger bullying tourists at Boulders and had to step in and call his supervisor. It's the thing of a little power... I’m sorry but that is not how you treat someone for not having a stupid permit. A fine = ok, but don’t arrest or assault someone! That is grievous bodily harm. Insane. Imagine if he was a tourist! And what about the impact it will have on SAns and their opinion of “law enforcers” Breaking someone's arm for a permit, now he can't represent us in the competition, I can imagine the sound of a snapping bone, something should be done.
