NMB Municipality condemns illegal dumping sites after death of four children via SABCNewsOnline

Nelson Mandela Municipality

in the Eastern Cape has conveyed its condolences to the families of the four children who died after consuming a toxic substance at an illegal dumping site in Motherwell on Sunday. The deceased were members of two different families. They are ten-year-old Zintle Mqawu and her three-year-old brother Alunamda as well as three-year-old Alizwa Rhwayibana and his sister, ten-year-old Asive.

A seven-year-old boy, Asiphile Grootboom, survived the ordeal. Municipal spokesperson, Mthubanzi Mniki says illegal dumping sites are a challenge. “We need to intensify awareness to our people about the dangers of these illegal sites. This incident forms part of the dangers of illegal dumping. We have always tried to make our people understand, so as a municipality we will intensify our campaign.”

BigDaddyDees89 Typical MYANC no planning! Closing the stable after the horse bolted! The deaths of more children are on your head!

What do politicians actually say when they condemn something? How do condemning help the people who are suffering? Condemn and forget...jaaa...politics

VijayShadean After the death of the children? What if there was no death were they going to be okay

It's so easy for the municipality to condemn yet they do not provide any support for these communities, especially the community concerned, that's an area without refuse bins, and the epwp they refer to isn't doing the job clearly

These places are all over the country its a sad scenario really no environmental awareness or whatever, what is being taught in schools? Where are the enforcement for bylaws 🤷‍♂️
