European stocks join global slump on oil price crash

Global stock markets are reeling from the knock-on effects of the Covid-19 virus as investors flee energy equities. – EPA, March 9, 2020.

EUROPE’S major stock markets slumped at the open today, as crashing oil prices saw investors dump global equities, which have already been slammed by heightened fears over the deadly Covid-19 virus. Stocks tanked after oil nosedived 30% at one stage, sparked by top exporter Saudi Arabia slashing prices after a bust-up with Russia over crude production.
