Coronavirus: Care companies fear bankruptcy

Coronavirus has left companies which support older and disabled people in their own homes struggling to cope, says their professional association.

The UK Home Care Association says the firms need more protective equipment for staff and clearer guidance on protecting clients. The virus has put care companies which were already financially vulnerable under additional pressure, says UKHCA.In a statement on Tuesday,The extra demands placed on care at home by the coronavirus outbreak have thrown the underlying social care crisis into sharp relief, UKHCA argues.

In the current situation, home care companies say they are likely to have more people needing care and will need to train extra staff as some will not be able to work if they become ill. Tuesday's announcement by NHS England that hospitals should free up some 15,000 beds by discharging long-term patients who are medically fit into the community is expected to pile even more pressure onto the social care sector in the coming weeks.

We endured poor service and generally poor care for many years for and elderly and infirm relative. Whilst the care home looked good and had all the usual sales blurb, the only thing they ever did efficiently was excel in removing clients savings to fund their own lifestyles

Maybe this will be a wake-up call for now valuable these care workers REALLY are and training, pay and conditions will improve drastically for them. If that happened we wouldn't have a problem getting workers. Should be a penny in the pound ring fenced tax for social care

Cant our big massive profit making energy companies etc stop charging for utilities for the those struggling. When this over their business will still exist & their profits will level back again.

Payback Time? More long-term psychiatry, diabetology, primary care have so far caused more and more illness and death due to increased insulin levels, medicalization and passivation because care is governed by sponsorship.

Why would care companies fear bankruptcy? While allot of companies are having issues getting supplies since the NHS takes priority, surely care companies will be on the front lines lessening the load of the hospitals?
