The flights are cancelled until May 31, 2020, as part of efforts to contain the coronavirus outbreak that has infected 202 South Africans as of 20th March. covid19inSA sabcnews

It follows the gazetting of new stringent regulations aimed at curbing the spread of the virus.

“The COVID-19 pandemic and attendant travel restrictions, resulted in substantial decline in demand for air travel. The situation led to many airlines around the world to ground aircraft, release their employees and to cancel flights. In the case of SAA, this decision means that SAA will only render services on its regional and domestic routes,” the national airline says in a statement.

“Airlines throughout the world are going through financial difficulties. European airlines have asked for € 70 billion from the EU to support them to survive. US airlines have asked their government $ 50 billion in order to survive. Some predict that the airline industry in its current form it won’t be existing beyond May this year. So this is the kind of difficulty the COVID-19 has created,” said Minister Gordhan.

They can cancel international flights for the whole year, this pandemic Covid-19 WILL NOT be over in few months time

Police must patrol the Area where the Tavern is operating, course we still see them opening until midnight

What about incoming flights?

We know SAA is broke so its not like they have a choice, Cancel all flights, all flights, all flights, there shouldn't be people travelling anywhere at this time there shouldn't be any planes flying at this time 😷😷😷😷😷

Staying alive is all that matters at this pointing time most of the cases are imported and we cant allow more in our shores, but not turning a blind eye on the dying airliner sabcnews

Iniquitous govt will seize on this for more taxpayers bailouts

The best thing to have happened to South African Airways is the outbreak of the CoronaVirus. SAA was struggling alone but the virus has affected ALL airlines hence they will all have to start afresh. But SAA management has to play it strategically and they will come out strongly

Government is grounding these flight after BLF raised these concerns today. It’s a shameful government
