Anne SteeleThe concert industry was supposed to have its best year ever, highlighted by tours including the Rolling Stones, Elton John and Post Malone. Now, it’s hard to say when the next show will take place.

After a yearslong explosion in live events—propelled by musicians’ reliance on touring income and fans’ willingness to pay top dollar—the global live-music business was on track to generate $28.8 billion in revenue in 2020, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers LLC.
