from Tokyo, where coronavirus cases are spiking, about keeping her employees safe, cutting down unnecessary costs, and how the only thing to do in a crisis like this one is adapt and change. Can you paint a picture of what life is like in Tokyo right now?

I was on the way to Italy at the end of February. I had a layover flight and when I got to Germany, we got the news about the lockdown and that we should go back to Tokyo, because once we got into Milan we might not be able to leave. It was pretty scary because I had two staff with me; we had to quickly change our flights and go back to Tokyo. Knowing that [the coronavirus] was already happening in Japan, it just really hit me that moment.

I think that we’re going to shift our sales to September during women’s week. For us, right now, it’s about survival as a company, and making sure that we stabilize the next few months. We were already working on the next collection, but our energy right now is about providing things for the domestic market so that we can get the relationship going with our local customers.
