Taxis will now be able to operate at 70% capacity.

Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula announced on Wednesday that taxis would be allowed to carry full passenger loads, provided that passengers are wearing masks.

We had included 100% and there was a public outcry to say it doesn't address social distancing and after consultation with regard to that because this is the campaign for the people and you have to listen to the people and engage the stakeholders. So we have agreed on 70%, said Mbalula. "The problem with some of the taxi industry leaders is that they talk this and wake up talking another thing, so from where I am seated with my discussions with them, NTA is happy and SANTACO said they are not happy with 100%.

You don't show your weakness to drunk taxi drivers and expect is business as usual

You worry about the taxi's..... They do not give a sh.. anyway......but citizens are the last priority on this government's list..... You all making rules az you please and apply to whom it suits......... There is a serious communication gap in this government....

Yes because they always uphold the law. Fucking joke honestly

I've not seen any country going around asking people how they feel about lockdown only SA that's why we get pushbacks all the time

We are making same mistake Spain & Italy made - just not taking this virus seriously until things get out of hand. No amount of testing will help if taxis are carting people (infected) around freely. It cannot be business as usual.

WHY CAN'T HE USE BUSES

They won't do it

It's a joke ...hey🤣🤣🤣

I urge you minister MbalulaFikile to please review this 70/30% capacity decision, you are shooting yourself in the foot SouthAfricans are going to die Covid_19 FightCOVID19 LockdownSA StayAtHome

Mxxxm

This is a Worse than Bad Decision Now the spread of the virus will be more than normal ! Thank You SA Government ! No wonder, we are and will remain a 3rd world country !

XoliMngambi and Jane Dutton, do you guys deliberately confuse taxi drivers and taxi owners or you just don't know the difference? Factory workers are different from business owners, same goes for taxi industry. Drivers are just employees who normally don't make the rules.

Why does he not set the example by actual wearing his own mask? MbalulaFikile

When he himself is not regulated and running rogue!?

Government only concerned about taxi industry what about vendors informal traders people collecting waste for living

Mbalula don't have balls, he is a coward...this mission requires man like Bheki Cele

Is the lockdown still apply?

This ones think they special, everyone is suffering. Even first week of lockdown they could drive properly and caused accidents with the road being empty.

Mxm. They only care about profits.
