Concert Industry Could Lose Almost $9 Billion in Ticket Sales This Year, Pollstar Study Shows

— and that figure does not include associated businesses such as transportation, production, marketing, concessions, security, sponsorships and more.projected a $12.2 billion year for the industry based on its first-quarter chart — which was up 10.9% over 2019’s record-setting year to $840 million for 2020 while ticket sales rose 4.5% to 9.4 million — those projections changed virtually overnight as much of the country went into lockdown over the past few weeks.

The damage will be less severe if the industry recovers sooner in the year. Losses will be “much less, about $2.3 billion, if touring is possible as early as late-May,” the study continues. “And if quarantines continue through the summer, say, late-August, industry losses could total about $5.2 billion in just missed ticket sales alone.”

For the past 15 years, the concert business has been the primary financial engine of the music industry.

Good because all rhemother concerts we payed for already are all “postponed” so they legally kept all our money

Even post-pandemic the fear of large groups like the one pictured will prevent a lot of customers.

5 Billion of that is just fees.

A lot of shows weren’t worth the price of admission anyway.

IAmSophiaNelson Those poor David Geffen types.

I feel sorry for all of the touring crews that are out of work now, but definitely not for Ticketmaster and their “dynamic” price gouging ticket monopoly.

If concerts had been shut down in January, That number would be far less.

I hope the scalpers are going to be okay.

Everybody’s hurting. Well not Jeff Bezos. Jeff’s doing great.

And it couldn’t have happened to a nicer industry with all their bullshit fees.

Pollstar Good. I've had enough of being gouged by the likes of ticketmaster and bands/musicians charging hundreds, and hundreds of dollars to see them. Maybe a nice, big and lasting financial hit will make the greed stop. taylorswift MotleyCrue DefLeppard Poison

Pollstar Too bad these ticket organizations have been ripping off concert goers for years Iam looking for sympathy but can’t find it

Pollstar I look forward to getting my $3,000 Rolling Stones tickets refunded.

Pollstar Aw that’s too bad!

Pollstar This and sports will take the longest to rebound for a variety of reasons.

Pollstar

Pollstar oh no not ticket sellers, theyve always been so nice

Pollstar
