As the country is on its second week of the 21-day national lockdown, the sale of alcohol is one of the prohibited products that do not form part of the essential goods in terms of the regulations.

Many South Africans who are addicted to cigarettes and alcohol are being negatively affected by the national lockdown – both physically and mentally.

The SABC looked into academic research from Havard Health School and Rehab Guide to look into the effects of alcohol withdrawal.

the onli thing that is on lockdown is alcohol as far as im concerned. everything is running as normal around the country people are loitering around the streets supermarkets are busy like never b4 we myt as well return back to work bcz this so called lockdown is a joke...

Many have stocked up before lockdown started..... Are you going to raid everyone's homes and confiscate their alcohol? Who said closing bottle stores are stopping ppl from drinking

I so wish that our government can also deploy more officers to search for the other kinds of drugs that are becoming more dangerous and toxic in our communities,(Butterworth)... Our country will become a better place to be, without drugs and alcohol.

Our stocks are low. We shall sober up till the end of Lockdown

Believe me, there are people who are consuming alcohol during this lockdown period. 100's of little illegal shops selling from their back doors and cannot be controlled. Same with the illegal selling of cigarettes.

I work for pikitup zondi and lust i get safety musk and gloves was 3 weeks ago. And were are working monday to friday.. So i dont think the government care about our safety as workers of the waist management... - i see my job as a high risk of me to my family at home indoors

it's good though, but I'm concerned about people depending on alcohol to survive. They will die

With cigarettes I wouldn't have a problem. But with alcohol, I disagree. In the big scheme of things, the troubles caused by the consumption of alcohol are far worse than those caused by it's prohibition. Imagine people being drunk during the lockdown.

This is really bad for alcohol dependent and some will end up being taken to hospital.

We need a strong immune system

😒😒😒😒😒😥 So the whole country is sober now 🙄😲🤯
