Ontario Finance Minister Rod Phillips answers questions at the daily briefing at Queen's Park in Toronto on April 9, 2020.Ontario Finance Minister Rod Phillips says he wants to see insurance companies giving drivers breaks on their premiums that reflect the “devastating impact” of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Some companies have already announced discounts for customers, including Allstate Insurance Co. of Canada, which is giving all of its drivers a “stay at home payment” of about 25 per cent of their monthly auto premium. Many other companies say they are offering to adjust premiums for customers, but Phillips says he would like to see them being pro-active.
fordnation Will the changes to regulations to decrease rates allow auto insurers the same flexibility to increase rates ad nauseum? Aren’t we creating a problem for the people who drive? If we are, it’s very sneaky (some would say underhanded).
It's better to ask first but if they dont comply the next step must be regulation People over profits
👍
That’s the best idea I’ve heard in the past 43 years. I’ll do better: make car insurance optional!
I called belair direct and I was only offered the usual discounts of I apply...all they did was try and push rent insurance. My cars not moving so why am I paying full premiums. Insurance companies are grossly profiting of this pandemic. What a joke.
How about making the insurance companies uphold Loss is business be included when government demands we close our businesses?
Good luck with that, they're a bunch of crooks.
Insurance policies partially based of mileage we drive. We don’t drive as much now and our cars mostly parked now. Still no relief from POOR insurance companies
Insurance companies are fleecing us. Banks are raping us. Banks need to step up. fordnation !!!
How about a call to chah in RRSP's tax free.
I’m with The Personal for both auto and property insurance. They are not offering any relief. Heard Desjardins is in the process.
About flipping time someone investigates how openly and without reservation insurance companies rob their canadian customers when it comes to auto and home insurance. It's unconscionable! bebetter
Don't 'call out'; demand and mandate it fordnation RodPhillips01 Insurers are bloody quick to increase rates if you so much as sneeze in a different postal code 🙄 autoinsurance CarInsurance onpoli insurance
It is about time!!!!
Lol, just during this? We’ve been getting absolutely robbed for years
Funny how the biggest and most profitable companies - like insurers and banks - are so reluctant to join this fight. Funny as in 'pathetic'.
