The Chairperson of parliament’s portfolio committee on health Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo has urged President Cyril Ramaphosa to ignore calls from some liquor retailers that regulations banning the sale of alcohol be relaxed.

Chairperson Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo says people who consume alcohol predispose themselves to become drunk.

“A person who is under the influence of alcohol has a poor sense of judgement for the environment, space and time. This lockdown period does not need people who have poor sense of judgement,” says Dhlomo. South Africa has recorded a 7% increase in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases on Sunday, with 145 more people testing positive for the virus. This brings the total number of people who’ve been confirmed as having contracted the virus to 2 173 and 25 deaths. At least 410 people have recovered from COVID 19.Dr Dhlomo says the committee commends President Ramaphosa’s call which includes banning the sale of alcohol during the lockdown period.

“The lockdown is a safe way that the President has called for where the sale of alcohol is not allowed. We urge the President not to heed the call of selling alcohol during the national state of disaster,” added Dr Dhlomo.

Government is trying to protect our lives by stopping alcohol. Alcohol is a very dangerous liquid during Covid-19. If you are drunk you cannot wash your hands properly, yr mouth will be full of saliva when talking to someone next to you, and your death is our loss.

Its a free rehab people, jst use it

We shall March and see how ignorant he can be.... we want alcohol and cigarettes

Mr President according to the numbers our economy is in the jungle and we loosing as nation becouse of the ban of cigarettes and alchol....close all taverns and bottle store but open place like shoprite liqour, tops and pick n pay liqour with and operating time of 9am to 13:00

Bazibe President- Dhlomo

Alcohol will not even prevent the spread of the virus, that must sink in.

Only a small number of people can be killed by not consuming alcohol rather then those who can die because of Covide 19 which is going to be spread by those drunk useless alcoholics who. If you think Covide 19 is a joke watch Chanel 406 you will see it's no joke

If the government want people to stop smoking or drinking offer them to go to rehab not force regulations.

The point of the lockdown is that people don't infect each other by interacting. I don't see people infecting each other by smoking or drinking at home. I am not a drinker but don't see the point of it people already making alcohol at home is that better?

Most of these ministers hide behind this lockdown to avoid their responsibilities by stambling on pple's rights and lyfs. Law enforcement agencies are always roaming the streets.full patrol. Lift the ban on liquor and cigarettes, stop dictatorship excuses. PPL are dying!

No more fine to those who found selling alcohol, finish en klaar! they are budgeting for bail RonaldLamola . ne

THE South African population is +57million...we haven't even tested 100k of our population. Every day new numbers of infected people surfice. We hate facing the facts don't we? Let's not then..let's just use common sense. By the time they test 200k hw many will be infected?

Mr President please DON'T DO IT! Alcoholics are violent, irresponsible people who don't care about anything or anyone but themselves and their daily dop. Crime and Covid-19 infection rates will skyrocket.

If we relax the ban of alcohol we may as well relax everything else. Everyone will then take the Government to court to be classified as essential goods. Nxayi suka anikahle bo ukuba izigqila zatshwala

Good shot. alcoholfreeSouthafrica

Chairperson

This thing of liquor guys eish kunzima every idiot is against it.lets wait to hear the ruling of constitutional court on Tuesday.

Good.

But now, does any one of you realise how this has affected some people! Especially those that have psychological problem.

Most of people they don't enjoy drinking alcohol at home which means once alcohol is allowed most of people they will die🤷

Those who voted them must also urge President Cyril Ramaphosa to recall him 🤔

That's why I say Cyril is not the leader he just follows orders from his comrades and do and say things they want him to 🙄

He can deal with the lost jobs

Allowing the sale of alcohol will only make things worse.

Please. No.

Stop harassing our Commander in Chief hlee we facing a very crus enemy here , wht is alcohol?
