Lifting of ban on alcohol sales during lockdown in the spotlight

There is a court case coming up this week, which will seek to compel president Cyril Ramaphosa to allow the selling of alcohol in the country during the lockdown.

Some sectors of society, including business owners, intend to approach the courts to try and force government to relax existing lockdown regulations, particularly in relation to liquor trading. The ANC has urged companies to take advantage of measures to mitigate the effect of the lockdown – rather than undermine government efforts to combat the spread of the Coronavirus.

ANC National Spokesperson, Pule Mabe says, “The current situation shows that this is indeed a moment of business unusual, across the board. The ANC calls on all South Africans to abide by the lockdown regulations as well as precautionary measures that were announced by government as part of curbing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lift it i no peopol smoke

What i know is that you can not control a drunk person so allowing alcohol to be consumed during lockdown will lead us back to zero and it will destroy our focus as country.

Yes it is

Court is Ok because Alcohol is not Essential. Thanks

It doesn’t even have to be on spot light!

Alcohol must be a no no i now from experience most people who consume alcohol are abusive and they don't think children they are ones who going to suffer being locked down with someone who is drunk it's a no no

Most of people want to use alcohol and cigarettes as a shield but remember the informal traders had given the permit to work during lockdown ,they were also crying saying no 1 in the street, so we are going to sell for who

que le gouvernement sud africain ne permettent pas que cela soit appliqué ,en tout cas pas en Afrique du sud où le taux des crimes sont les plus élevés surtout a cape town où je vie .Merci

I want a drink but I also know it's a bad idea to lift the ban.

Alcohol MUST be a no no; people tend to misbehave and unruly when they are drunk irrespective of where they are. A number of women and children are subjects of abuse/domestic abuse heightened by alcohol consumption. Can we be responsible and save their lives during this lockdown.

Lot off ppl r in a difficult stage ,like the ppl dat r addicted to alcohol nd tobacco, but I wana know does the police smoke while the r on duties ,couse thy also human

Lifting the ban is very bad , why ? Because people will drink all their money and become desperate , and you can’t keep a desperate person indoors ,there’s going to be a rise in Covid 19 cases as well as crime

They prefer black people to rather drown in alcohol.

Alcohol industry is not the only industry suffering from the lockdown. Hardware shops, furniture shops are also losing revenue. It is sad that people are using all sorts of excuses as if alcohol is the only industry that is being affected by the lockdown.

No Alcohol and Cigarettes during Lockdown......tank u

Lockdown should be alcohol consumption free, unless we're not serious about LIFE!

Well what about tobacco?
