Personal assets of $2 million is not crazy rich. Small business owners usually have a good majority of $ wrapped up in a business.

His wife has her own business. As someone who struggled to keep my career completely separate from my husbands I can assure you she takes her business extremely seriously. As a small business owner she has every right to apply for a loan to keep her business afloat.
