Payments and financial tech giant FIS just launched a fintech venture arm — here's where it's looking to invest $150 million over the next 3 years

, was considered a way for FIS to stay ahead of the curve in an industry that was rapidly consolidating.

"We just have to be positioned to embrace those technologies and protect the existing markets that we have deep penetration in by offering new digital-type solutions," Ramji said. "There's new businesses that will be created out of it, so we just have to be on the forefront of that." Companies will need to have a large addressable market — "We're not looking just for point solutions," Ramji said — with some strategic opportunity for FIS, whether it be in markets the company already serves or potentially could.
