Maceda joined Bain as a consultant in 1988. Throughout his 32-year tenure at the firm, he's had roles as chairman of the Asia-Pacific region, global leader of Bain's potential transformation group, member of the firm's board of directors, and now worldwide managing partner,"Our culture has long been a strength for us," he said. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Maceda is overseeing global teams that are advising companies developing reopening plans. In an interview with Business Insider, he explained that bringing your workforce back to the office is a rather messy and complicated problem. The CEO is also figuring out Bain's reopening plans in Copenhagen, Denmark, and in Munich, Germany.
"I'm not just a consultant," he said. "I've been a consultant for a big chunk of my career, but I am a CEO, too. I'm finding that companies are not just asking for my advice as a consultant, but they're asking what Bain is doing. Marcil believes that the most successful consultants challenge traditional ways of thinking, possess a relentless curiosity where they don't stop at the first part of the answer, are strong listeners, and exhibit good sportsmanship in teamwork. A successful career at BCG is grounded in empathy, she said.
"In challenging times, a leader's first instinct is often to get right down to business, especially when there are so many unknowns and so much at stake," Marcil told Business Insider. "There is no time to waste. But I don't believe you are wasting time if you are showing clients and colleagues your human side.
